The Holiday Getting to Know You

The holiday rush is here. You have 12 days left until christmas is here. I am virtually done with all my shopping. I only have 3 more gifts to buy and the ones I have are already wrapped. Yeah me. In the holiday spirit, I thought I would attach an email that I received. I am constantly getting questionares from friends, but this is the first holiday version. Hope you enjoy.

Welcome to the 2005 Holiday Edition of Getting toKnow Your Friends!

Hi Rebecca. You should keep writing.

I really empathize with you in terms of not being able to hang out so much with your still-single-and-childless high school friends after you have kids, and yet not feeling like you quite fit in with the 30- and 40-something parent crowd. It seems like so few women in their 20s are starting families these days. I am 25, and maried, and I have a 19-month-old. I'm the first among my old circle of friends to get pregnant, and I'm still adjusting to the sudden disappearance of my social life. Playgroups help, but it's just not the same . . .

My earnest hope is that some of my friends from high school and college will go and get themselves knocked up already, and then maybe they will have an epiphany as to why it's really not okay to call my house at midnight, or to invite me to the movies at the last minute when I have no way of finding a babysitter and then get all pissy when I can't come, or to drop by for a surprise visit wanting to play with the baby despite the fact that they are all hacking up half a lung with the flu.

And maybe then they'll be willing to go to the zoo with me three times a month, too.

Until then, I'll probably just keep obsessively posting on other mommyblogs to get my daily adult conversation fix.

Heh.

Jaelithe,
Thanks for the encouragement. I really enjoyed your comments. Your friends are exactly like mine. They don't understand why I can't get a last minute sitter or why I don't want to hang out late when I have to wake up at 5 the next morning. They have been better now that most have full time jobs and a few are married or engaged.

Again thanks for the post.
